Kathryn Wingard

Kathryn Wingard is a registered art therapist and clinical mental health counselor who facilitates art therapy sessions at the University of Utah Neuropsychiatric Institute and 5 West, the acute, adult inpatient psychiatric unit of the University of Utah hospital. Kate’s art therapy and clinical counseling research has encompassed investigation into the intersubjective space within clinical art therapy practice, art making as a tool for forming a therapeutic alliance as a bilingual therapist, and sensory awareness during the creative process for grounding and mindfulness practice. Kate is also a MFA ceramics candidate at the University of Utah. Her current studio research intertwines with her research as a mental health practitioner as she examines perception, sensory awareness, empathy and the subjective experience of the artist and the viewer.
